little butterfly

I should be studying right now.  But I'm sooo burned out, and am definitely not thinking of psychology.  My mind is on something else. :)

So I thought I would share this marvelous quote I found in my Relief Society quotebook from a couple years ago...

"Just living is not enough, said the little butterfly.
One must have freedom, sunshine,
and a little flower."
-Hans Christian Anderson

life photographer

(thanks to Google image search for this photo)

Yesterday I had a moment.  This picture, though not a fully accurate representation of this moment, gives a pretty good look at part of my moment.  There I was.  Happy and relaxed, swaying back and forth in silence, thinking to myself:
"If I had a photographer who followed me around
and took pictures of my life, I'd want them to snap a shot right now,
enlarge it as big as they could, frame it, and place it
somewhere I could always see it.
That way I'll remember what happiness looks like."

I am so grateful for life.  I'm grateful for all the little things, the random smiles, the looks.  I'm grateful to look outside and see blue sky, hear birds, and really understand that I am lucky to be here.  I'm lucky to have the life I have, I'm lucky to be where I am.  I'm blessed to have amazing people in my life.
I'm lucky to have happiness.

questionnnnnn

The biggest question of my life is on the tip of my tongue.

But since this blog is void of anything personal relationship ish....I cannot voice this question.

Which is considerably annoying since the answer to this question is something I reallllllllllllllly want to know.

But it's personal - and the answer to this question no doubt varies to each individual person.  So....hearing your opinion on it may not even be helpful.  I wish it was.  I wish I knew how to tell.

I wish I could answer this question.

Maybe over time I'll be able to.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

prayer

Recently I have been praying about something specific that I've NEVER prayed about before.  Prayer has been such an important tool for me my entire life, and lately my answers haven't been coming automatically.  Last time I prayed for something important (about a month ago) my answer came two weeks later - so unexpectedly.  But it was exactly what I needed to hear.
So this time around when I'm praying, even harder than I did a month ago, and the answer isn't coming, I'm taking the answer to my last prayer as help for what to do about this one.  Just be patient.
Prayer is so important to me, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to talk to my Heavenly Father, to ask Him questions and to seek his guidance about important things in my life.  Cause this thing I'm praying for right now - it's a big deal.  One of the biggest decisions I'll ever make in my entire life, so I need to be patient and understand that the right answer will come in time.

"Thankfully, we can call upon Him anytime, anywhere.
We can speak to Him in the quiet thoughts of our mind and from the
deepest feelings of our heart.... The peace God speaks to our minds
will let us know when decisions we have made are right, when our course is true."

"never knew I needed"

This is my new favorite song.  It's from the credits of "The Princess and the Frog" and I am obsessed with it.  Obsessed.

"Never Knew I Needed"
by Ne-Yo
For the way you changed my plans.
For being the perfect distraction.
For the way you took the idea that I have
of everything that I wanted to have,
and made me see there was something missing.
For the ending of my first begin,
and for the rare and unexpected friend.
For the way you're something that I never choose,
but at the same time something I don't wanna lose,
and never wanna be without ever again.

You're the best thing I never knew I needed.
So when you appeared I had no idea.
You're the best thing I never knew I needed.
So now it's so clear I need you here always

My accidental happily ever after.
The way you smile and how you comfort me, with your laughter.
I must admit you were not a part of my book,
but now if you open it up and take a look,
you're the beginning and the end of every chapter.

You're the best thing I never knew I needed.
So when you appeared I had no idea.
You're the best thing I never knew I needed.
So now it's so clear, I need you here always

Who'd knew that I'd be here,
so unexpectedly,
undeniably happy
said with you right here, right here next to me.

But you're the..
you're the best thing I never knew I needed.
So when you appeared I had no idea.
You're the best thing I never knew I needed.
So now it's so clear i need you here always...
Baby, baby
Now it's so clear I need you here, always.

an ending

This post is dedicated to the calling I have served in for the past year.  One year ago I received a phone call asking if I would like to do a service for my sorority (Beta).  I accepted willingly, and a few days later was called as the Rush officer.  Honestly, I freaked.  Rush officer? That's a huge deal! It's on my shoulders to get girls to join Beta.  Big big deal.  A week later I was sustained, and set apart, and the ball only rolled faster.  2 months later my Rush was completely planned, "Let It B" was in full swing. One stressful month later my work paid off.  28 new girls became members of Beta.  Needless to say, I was so proud.  This calling has been the greatest blessing of my life and I'm so sad to see it end.  I cannot believe it's been a year since I was a little newbie, naive about how all things to do with Rush worked, and now, look what has happened.  This year has been amazing.  I cannot believe it's over!  I'm actually crying as I type these words because when I thought joining Beta changed my life, it's nothing compared to how much being an officer has changed my life.  It's been such an amazing experience, and the greatest opportunity to help serve these girls.  I have gotten the chance to get to know the MOST AMAZING girls I have ever known, and served alongside 8 of the most fantastic women ever.  I honestly can't believe it's that time already.  One week from tonight I'll be released as Rush officer.  Hold up!  Please give me more time.  There's so much more that I feel like I can do for these girls, and I want to be given the opportunity to do it all.
To all you Beta babes out there- thank you thank you thank you for making this the best year of my life.  I would not be the girl I am today without your wonderful examples to guide me along.  Your testimonies, sweet spirits, and happy smiles made my week so much better, and getting the chance to serve you has blessed me more than any of you know.  So thank you for always being so willing and so amazing.  I will always remember you girls and the memories we made this year.  Don't worry, I'll still be around next semester!
To J, Joce, Mich, Linds, Whit, Brit, Gaily, and (of course) Jana- You are my best friends.  You've been my rock through everything and I know I can always count on you.  Thank you for all your support and help over the past year, for liking my ideas, for everything.  You are all the most amazing women that I know, and I hope we are always close friends.  I owe so much to all of you, you have helped change my life in so many ways.  Your spirits have touched mine and have made me want to be better.  I look up to all of you more than you know, and am so grateful for the past year that I got to spend serving and working with all of you.  It has been an amazing blessing, and I am so grateful for it.  Thank you thank you thank you again. For everything.

I love hiking

I went for a hike yesterday.
It was the best hike ever.
(except for maybe Angel's Landing a couple weeks ago. It's a tie)

I'm just so happy, I can't even put it into words. I am constantly pinching myself trying to figure out if this is really my life. Am I really this lucky?  And then I realize that it is my life, and I am so lucky, and so blessed with everything.  I am the luckiest girl.  I can't even believe it.  I'm constantly thanking Heavenly Father for everything He's given me lately.  I cannot describe how utterly happy I am. It's amazing.

Romans 8:28

"And we know that all things
work together for good
to them that love God,
to them who are the called
according to his purpose."

This scripture has been the center of my thoughts recently.  I've been stressed about a lot of things. Certain things.  And when I came across this scripture I realized that being stressed is not worth it.  Heavenly Father does things for a reason.  He does what He does because it's right, and it's what is supposed to happen and I know that, no matter what He calls me to do, it's because He wants me to do it, and knows that it is right for me.  I'm so grateful that He knows exactly what I'm supposed to do and exactly what I'm supposed to be, I just need to realize that more often.

just a little something

Easter this year rocked.  I have often had the horrible habit of being sick on Easter, but this year (thankfully) I was not.  I got to spend the whole day with my favorite person, hunt for Easter baskets (something I've never done before since my family only hides the candy and the eggs), watch conference (fantastic!!) and of course, eat PEEPS!

I'm not sure you can fully understand, but peeps are delicious.  I'm not normally a marshmallow person, but these melt in your mouth and are delectable delicious little morsels.  I got pink ones this year, obviously, and I've opened the package so they can harden up a bit.

But, this short post I would like to dedicate to peeps.  Didn't have any this Easter? Go get some! I'm sure they are on clearance racks now or something.  Eat a peep.  For me, please?

snowing at midnight

It's April 6th.  Spring in most of the world.  Not in SLC.  Yesterday was a relatively nice day.  I wore a sweatshirt, jeans and converse to school and was perfectly comfortable (minus the wind that, when blowing, makes my bangs stand up like a mohawk haha) wandering around.  Then all of a sudden Utah weather happened.  One minute it was sunny, the next hail was battering the windshield of my car.  When I finally got home, I hunkered down in my love sac to watch The Sweet Hereafter (very sad movie - not recommended) and witnessed a blizzard begin.  A blizzard that lasted the entire evening and into the night.  Which, in it's own way was absolutely beautiful and I would have loved it.  If this were February.  Or Christmas.  But it's April!  It's supposed to be sunny/rainy and warm enough to wear my flip-flops to school (which, if you know me well, you know are my favorite shoes) and lay on the grass outside pretending to soak up some sun.
But last night I went to my friend's house and watched the NCAA Championship game Duke v. Butler. To be honest, I'm not passionate about either of those teams so I didn't really care who won.  It was quite an exciting game, and I enjoyed the company more than anything.  After the game, I engaged in a quick snowball fight, then headed home through the snow covered streets.  Pulling into my driveway, a short walk in the quiet snowy night was suggested and off we went.  It was perfect.  I got soaking wet, water was dripping off my hair in gigantic droplets, and my mascara was running swiftly down my cheeks.  But I was happy.  It was a wonderful night.  So, now you've learned something new about me.  I love late night walks in the snow.

But now I've decided that,
since there's 28 days until I am officially
out of school for the summer,
I am so ready for picnic weather.
